A conversion of a 1950s commercial building into a two bed pied-a -terre for a small family to hang out in the school holidays.
Our client owned a small and well located flat in the City of London. Whilst there were few existing features we had the advantage of just two vertical stanchions as our structural constraints.
We reconfigured the space to accommodate a master bedroom and bathroom, children's bedroom, family bathroom and a large open-plan kitchen, dining and entertaining space.
To reflect the property’s commercial origins we clad the kitchen work surface in pewter, wrapping both the horizontal and vertical planes. This industrial material with its seamless welded joints enabled us to juxtapose polished and softer materials in the adjacent dining and entertainment spaces and purchase on behalf of our clients contemporary and mid century decorative objects.
Small in scope but with a highly exacting design, we created a lovely, friendly, fun and individual space.
