A full refurbishment and reconfiguration of a listed apartment over four floors, including obtaining planning consent to demolish and rebuild a rear addition.
The brief from a young couple lead to a scheme that celebrated exquisite period features with strong juxtapositions of contemporary and mid century design, bespoke furniture, lighting, soft furnishing and the commissioning of site-specific fine and decorative arts.
Like so many of these beautifully proportioned buildings, previous developments had carved up the original configuration. Fortunately the two principle rooms in our site had been left intact and both enjoyed magnificent original features.
The existing layout was over four floors with peculiar locations for the bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen. We achieved planning consent to demolish a 1970s’ extension and replace with a well-appointed and detailed brick structure in which we located the master ensuite and terrace garden. This freed up the ground floor where the master bedroom ensuite had been previously located to house a new kitchen. All internal staircase runs were altered in reconfiguring a further two bedrooms and bathrooms, followed by a full refurbishment of the entire fabric of the flat.
Our client invited us to layer this new shell with bespoke joinery, furniture, decorative objects and commissioned 2 and 3 dimensional art.
The process, though challenging from a planning stance was very rewarding and we have enjoyed adding value to our client, financially and otherwise
